A few days ago Lily and I explored US currency. We also explored the amazing power of ZERO!
Yesterday, as we were discussing her age, and how many months vs a fraction of year she has accomplished (using hair bands no less), she demonstrated her understanding and complete comprehension of adding with single digits and then associating the result in tens and hundreds.
She seemed to grasp the idea of splitting a year into fractional segments, and realized that because of her current age (6 years, 10 months) that she can no longer call herself 6 and a half, nor can she accurately use “quarters” of a year to describe her current age. She followed as we discussed alternate sets/fractions for description of a more accurate representation of her age. We eventually arrived at dividing the year into 6ths and she was able to then determine that she has completed 6 and 5/6 years, leaving 1/6 of a year before completing her 7th year.
Then we discussed her new bed. We are working on Cecily’s Room, 7.0. She discovered the amount of time her Papa has to work in order to pay for this new bed and she immediately told me to return/cancel the order because she would rather have her Papa home than the bed.
Today, she’s made a medal, a tail, a cape, and some other clothing for the turtle, along with an entire obstacle course. He’s tolerating her. She’s loving it and tending to him gently. She’s even devised a competition of sorts – encouraging the masses to “Vote for Xoomxoom!!”
