Quantum Leaping, Roof Raising, Laser Guided Pooping Machines

This morning we began with some wacked out sentences on the fridge, which included flying pigeons with laser guided poop devices.  These sentences are made out of English, French, and Spanish words, randomly thrown together.  Is this a logical way of learning sentence structure in a language other than English? No.  It does generate vocabulary however, and we offset the sentence structure with immersion every morning (if she wants to watch something on tv in the morning, she has to locate it in a language other than English).

 And on to quantum mechanics…

So, if the only certainty is probability, then is our reality dictated by our intent and chance, which may even be more dictated than we can imagine, is no longer so restricted. Einstein couldn’t accept that our world could be left to chance instead of a supreme deity having instigated, generated, and continually controlling it, and therefore was unable to pursue his own theory of relativity any further than he did. Other scientists and theorists could move beyond this limitation and when Einstein’s theory could not prove or explain something specific, the other scientists went looking for what could. From these quandaries, came Probability.  This is what Lily and I are exploring this morning.
Electrons have an uncertainty of position until it is known where it definitely is found.  The act of of observation (before you measured/observed a particle, it’s location remains uncertain) generates the location’s certainty. The act of measurement forces a particle to relinquish all the possibilities, and forces the particle to make a choice of certainty.
Einstein believed in certainty, others believed in fuzzy. Einstein said, “God does not play dice.”  Bohr responded, “Stop telling God what to do.”

->  Why do electrons behave this way?   This is the question we will go seeking next.
What if we take the best of Einstein’s theory of certainty, coupled with theories of probability, do we find a place of serene realization?
Bizarre, absurd… Entanglement.
Entanglement is the theoretical prediction of quantum mechanics.
– Then we get on Clauser and well, teleportation or something that has been called that for a while.

While we are watching and discussing this, Lily is making clothing for London.
How was the idea of clothing generated, she wonders aloud.  We discuss…
Lily’s conclusion,  “It started with a wonder about clothes for something and then, after making some for them, it is obvious it’s just really fun so we keep doing it.”

An Incredible Chunk of Cheese – BUT

Quantum Field Theory – What’s next?
This is where I go next, and we will explore it together once I have some sort of grip on it myself.

 Roof Raising

About thirty minutes ago, Russ and I discovered Lily out in her tree house, with ropes on a pulley system she’d devised, trying to raise a “roof” above her head.  She dismantled the roof and supports from her climbing cube (toddler era), and had tied a loop around the roof in attempt to get it to the top of her tree house.  She’d been working on it for a while and as we were watching, we observed her moment of defeat and surrender.  In she dragged herself, slumped and teary eyed.

Enter Super Papa.
Russ happened to be here at the perfect moment, and as she came in, he intercepted her gloom.  She declared her frustration, he threw on a hoody, and out they went.

Little Engineer and Big Engineer…
To listen to them is just wonderful. “Let’s try this.”
“No, that doesn’t work, I already did that.”
“Well then, if we change _____ since it didn’t work for you, and add _______, with my arms and hands too, then we should get ______.”

Oh the memory making,  synapses growing, curiosity satisfying, ingenuity propelling, lovieness of it all!

We are now watching “The Little Mermaid” for the first time ever, and when she’s had enough of this, we turn our focus to creating a nest for the coming (hopefully) chick today or tomorrow.
So hopeful.
