Lily explained that she was just the right size, she thought, to fit in the sunbox. She decided to find out.
Then, she began with different amounts of her body in and out of the box. We talked about portions, fractions, and dividing her body into segments.
Finally, we talked about the temperature range in and out of the sunbox. We discussed how the glass and shape of the window and inlet focuses the light and heat.
“The sun makes it light and me warm.”
Might be a good time to explain the difference between intensive and extensive properties/units:
Extensive: You can add them. You take a 6 inch pen put after another 6 inch pen, you get a total length of 12 inches.
Intensive: You do not add them. You take an object at 60 degrees, and another one at 70. If you put them together, you do not get an object at 130 degrees.
