Grandma & Grandpa (Russ’s side) gave Lily a sweater this Christmas that came from deep within the family. Mary Forbes made Russ a sweater many years ago and now, Bugz is wearing it.
She is aware that Papa’s great grandma made it for him, and her rationalization was, “So, it’s really old”.
She comprehends the concept of my mom, Russ’s mom, etc.. I think she also understands that they (grandmas) have moms, and so, from a concrete perspective (minus the duration of time and generation) I suspect she can comprehend another mama in the mix. In fact, there is a good chance she understands that everyone has mamas and papas, but it’s not an abstract comprehension yet, I don’t think anyway.
Mind you, my phone does not have a fast enough shutter to catch this kid… sorry for the fuzz
The sweater had tassels on it when Russ owned it but Lils requested we remove them. She didn’t want to be so fuzzy. (Go figure, given the above shots.) So, we painstakingly took each one off (they were just knitted/single loop, so no damage to the sweater) and then she very enthusiastically put it on and declared herself as “Papa little again”.
This experience allowed for conversation on generations, family, memories, experiences, and stories from before us now.
