There have been many, many times in the last 3.5 years when Cecily has awakened a bit in the night, or when an infant, awakened any time of the day, and I (Angie) have come to her side to sooth and solve. I think I have often said something like, “Lilybug, ______________ Mama’s here”, in a gentle and calming voice. The blank is usually filled with something along the lines of “Everything is ok, you’re not alone, I can help, you’re alright now, food’s coming”.
Today, and a few other times, while tending to her babies, I over heard her stating to them, in a very soothing and nurturing tone that, “It’s ok now little baby, Mommy’s here”. She was referring to herself as the mama. 🙂
I don’t think I have ever really been aware that she actually heard me consciously any of the times I’ve said this very phrase to comfort her as she’s usually in just a barely awake, fussy sleep sort of state. Yet, it appears she HAS heard me. I am so thankful I have been able to be there for her each and every time, and that now, as she’s grown and reciprocates her experiences, she has within her the security and comfort to soothe her own little babies.
