We calculated the amount of weight the bricks on our chimney actually total this morning. See image, you’ll see the problem.
Lily pushes back pretty hard when asked to do mathematic calculations, but she does work through them with me. Our discussion of which she would prefer, figuring out stuff that matters to our life or worksheet after worksheet, usually ends in the former being what she’ll concede.
Maybe someday she’ll care.
The images of our calculations below are in my handwriting because, 1) she still doesn’t like to write, and 2) Rowan is often all over us while we do this and it’s beyond frustrating and time consuming to have her do it all, so I write and she figures (produces the answers as we go through the steps) and does the calculations with me.
We intend to use the existing chimney stack, top side, and install a wood stove in here. This was the chimney stack that was part of the original off-grid heating system. Remember the cinderblock tomb? This is what is left..

We never calculated how many bricks /weight she and I moved the day I ended up giving myself an umbilical hernia (was using only one hand, as I’d sliced my finger on the other hand). Well, today, we did a quick calculation. We’re estimating we moved a minimum of 2.5 tonnes of brick that afternoon. – Explains why I ended up with a hernia, and she went to bed at like 5pm. This, and I was already a month pregnant with Rowan… Eh, this house.
