Thierry says to Ray: I have read your comments on someone else’s wall about graphing calculators. I am of a “in between” generation: I have never had a slide rule–too young–and never had a graphing calculator–too old.
That being said, I am a geek, and thought at some point in time of buying one. But I thought: “Why would I buy a $100 calculator if a free computer software/web site can do the same?”. Well, now they would call it an “app”, but I guess the idea is the same.
Angie Nixon to group: I am of the in-between generation where Microsoft and Apple were born… My kid came into existence when smart phones did. My first computer was a big brown Commodore 64 and I even had the extra stuff, the keyboard, a 16 color monitor, and even a printer and joystick!! Space Taxi, yeah baby! I was 8.
My daughter’s first computer came at about 40 months into her life, and its interface is her finger. It can communicate with any device necessary or chosen, on and off planet.
Maybe StarFleet isn’t so far off, after all. Titan is looking more and more appealing with every new photograph.
I asked Lily what she wanted to learn about the other day… We were watching Wonders of the Solar System. She said she wants to do what the host was doing, which happened to be headed toward the Thin Blue Line that episode. She told me that she thinks she wants to explore space, and live on a starship (a Trekky already, I’m afraid).

While the other kids in the neighborhood declare they want to be a firefighter, doctor, or teacher when they grow up, mine suggests interplanetary explorer, theoretical physicist, and a mama.
Lily’s focus yesterday and today, has been on time progression (forward/back/fast/slow/present). Thank you Picard, his fingernails, and some brown mushy fruit… and a temporal anomaly or two.
