This past week we have seen Lily increasingly working out how to write/spell/create words. She’s choosing to read when she wants to know what something says, she’s using phonics (sounding what she can) and asking for help with digraphs.
One of my favorite parts of watching this development, knowing how little guidance or instruction is being given, is how she works out direction, flow, and entire sentences.
She is writing from left to right, right to left, splits words on different lines, and writes in circles. Her letters are almost entirely legible, and when not exactly, they are at least intelligible.
One particularly interesting development we have noticed is her use of a capital E with 6 lines instead of three, when she wants to write the dipthong (ee) sound.
The images below are of writings/pics she did yesterday after we returned from Red River. The first is her saying, “That I think a fairy will come.” The second doesn’t need much interpretation, but she indicates it’s for future use, if necessary – she will have a sign!
