She decided to be a nerd today, self proclaimed… The scientist, inventor has re-emerged, this time, a Lady in Red.
Lily, er, Ms. Cecily, er, Lindsey, er, Merida….. Has developed a specific enjoyment and appreciation of that which she deems super scientifical, and beautiful. It’s amazing to see her develop this sense of herself. She relishes the pride and sense of self she experiences when she presents herself in her beauty and brilliance.
Neither of us have ever directed either of these developments within her, but have simply observed and encouraged her interest by exposing, providing opportunities, and making sure she has the “stuff” her imagination concocts to play with in her hands as much as possible. Russ and I both continue to encourage her interests, finding unique and intriguing aspects of whatever interests her to inspire our own appreciation of the concepts and topics. We are learning right along side her.
So, thinking of how to enter this post, doing so with the delicacy and poignancy it deserves, is proving more difficult the more I think about it. I want to capture the sheer beauty of Lily developing this aspect of her Self, while honoring her innocence and the purity of a positive self image, both in physical appearance and presenting, and intellect.
Lily watched this video with me and her imagination soared! She has been making her own clothing lately, much of which could be classified in the “evening gown” category. She has a special affinity for flare and graceful elegance. Yet, her efforts require her ingenuity, knowledge of space/measurement/dimension, and an eye for the end product she wishes to create. I suspect, thanks to some of the images of the women and their dresses in this slideshow, we will be seeing a few new creations of Lily’s by the end of the week.
Here are the shots we took of Lily, the Scientifical Lady in Red. (This was one of the 5 personas she assumed today – yes, today. 5 in one day is typical.) Simple elegance, coupled with complex intellect, grace, and empathy.. About the only thing that makes it even better is her imagination and her complete comfort in being exactly who she is, right this very moment. It’s quite something to behold, as is the deep and complete smile that I feel in my entire being while I watch her grow into her own.
